Reardon Publishing 2014 1874192863 / 9781874192862 Paperback New Book Ref A91
'The Gustav Holst Way' is the first guidebook to describe the 35-mile rambling route across the Cotswolds to celebrate the life and work of the composer Gustav Holst. Published exactly 100 years after Holst began work on The Planets, the route visits many of the places that were important to the young Holst as his musical career took wing. Among the highlights are the house in Cheltenham where he was born (now the Holst Birthplace Museum) and several venues in the Cotswolds where he played, conducted and taught music. The richly illustrated guidebook divides the walk into five easy/moderate sections (with four optional detours) and includes detailed maps, points of historical interest and all the practical information you need to follow in Gustav Holst's footsteps from Cranham to Wyck Rissington.

England's archetypal walking country, through lush valleys and up across limestone downland, the Cotswold Hills are delightfully peppered with warm honey-stone architecture. These houses inspired William Morris to form the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Its churches, built on wool-wealth from sheep, are without equal. These houses inspired William Morris to form the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Its churches, built on wool-wealth from sheep, are without equal. Fascinating information panels provide anecdotes and facts about the places you will see. All routes have been checked out on the ground and use rights of way or cross public access land. Real as Yesterday, Sue Mayfield
15 Sue Mayfield Real as Yesterday
Sue Mayfield 2007 1st Edition Paperback New Book Ref A71 Signed by the author
Six Months at Delancey Sue Mayfield was Writer-in-Residence at Delancey Hospital from October 2006 until March 2007. During that time she visited Delancey once a month with one of two musicians: in October, December and January, Jaye Woodfield, an accordion player; in November, February and March, Marie-France Riboulet, a harpist. While Jaye and Marie-France played, I chatted to patients, listening to their stories and in many cases writing them down. Working alongside the musicians was a lovely experience. Both players were enormously intuitive, adapting their repertoire to the patients' preferences and moods. The music had a powerful effect which I've tried to describe in the poem Real as Yesterday. Wonderful stories emerged - stories of ordinary and extraordinary things, stories of love and loss, of travel and discovery, of joy and sadness. I felt enormously privileged to be party to the telling of such stories and am grateful to all those who spoke to me, as well as to the staff at Delancey who tolerated and encouraged our presence on the wards, those six Mondays.
